Robert E. Zelmer, 77, of Berne, IN and a former resident of Chicago, IL passed away at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 at the Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne, IN. Robert was born on Jan. 22, 1931 in Chicago, IL the son of William Franklin and Emily (Ulrich) Zelmer, both deceased.
He married June Duerr and she survives.
Robert was an Airborne Soldier serving with the US Army during WWII. He was a skilled brick layer.
Robert is survived by his wife, June of Chicago, IL; a daughter, Barbara (Dave) Stolen of Buffalo Grove, IL; a daughter, Deborah (George) Verga of Shiller Park, IL; a son, William (Chris) Zelmer of Battle Creek, MI; a son, Mark Zelmer of Chicago, IL; and a sister Frieda (Fritz) Brown of Berne, IN. Friends and family were received from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 in the Swiss Village Chapel.
A Memorial Service followed at 10 a.m. with the Pastor Anita Rediger officiating.
A private family burial was held.Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
