Thomas Wolfsmith, 76, longtime resident of Chicago, passed away at his home on July 31 after a short battle with cancer. Tom is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, James (Sue) of St. Charles, John (Sara) of St. Charles, Dawn Kuhlmann of Carol Stream, Debra (Tom) Buckrucker of Bartlett; and five grandchildren, Tom, Christine, Ryan, Andrew Wolfsmith and Lindsay Kuhlmann; he was a dear uncle to Michael (Colette) Wolfsmith, Carin (Tim) Smith, Matthew Wolfsmith, Jeff (Kelly) Emme, Beth (Drew) Burns, Mark (Vivian) Ennis, Terri Ennis, Sarah (Mark) Mauzey and Kevin (Kristi) Ennis. Tom held a number of reporting and editing positions during his 35 years at the Chicago Tribune. His last position before retiring was Assistant Sunday Editor. He was the 1982 recipient of the Chicago Tribune’s Beck Award. Tom attended Northwestern University. He served as a surveyor in the Army during the Korean War. Tom had been quite active in leadership positions at Bethesda Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chicago. Visitation Tuesday, 10 a.m. until time of Chapel Services at 11 a.m. at Yurs Funeral Home, 1771 W. State St., Geneva, IL 630-232-7337. Chapel Services will be conducted by Pastor Ressler, Lord of Life Lutheran Church, LaFox where Tom was a member. Interment at Garfield Cemetery, Campton Township.
