Who said that diamonds are a girl’s best friend? According to the fifth annual Kilz Roller Report: “If your walls could talk” survey, 85 percent of women prefer a $5,000 home makeover rather than a pair of diamond earrings of the same value. “It’s shocking isn’t it?” says Lisa LaPorta, designer and HGTV personality. Why the sudden burst of practicality from the sex that spends hundreds on single pairs of shoes and handbags? “The economy is a big factor. People are recognizing that home improvements and do-it-yourself is hot right now. People are security conscious and they look at how they are spending money. The biggest investment is your home, and makeovers will improve the value,” says LaPorta. Economically people are in “nesting mode,” and the way to feel more upbeat about being stuck at home is to redecorate. A fresh coat of paint is the most cost efficient way to upgrade your home, LaPorta adds. “You can wear diamond earrings every day and nothing changes,” she says, “but with a home makeover you can improve your way of life.” To find more home makeover statistics, visit kilzrollerreport.com.
