Stage collapse kills 1
Organizers canceled a country music festival in Camrose, Alberta, a day after a fierce thunderstorm caused an outdoor stage to collapse, killing one person and injuring about 75 others. Actor Kevin Costner and his band Modern West were getting ready to go on when the incident occurred. He wasn’t hurt.
Americans detained
Swiss diplomats are trying to find out what happened to three Americans reportedly captured in Iran, the Foreign Ministry in Bern said Sunday. Iran confirmed Saturday that it detained the Americans, who they say crossed from northern Iraq.
New Gitmo?

LaGuardia mess
Air travelers at New York’s LaGuardia Airport found themselves in a mess of delays and missed connections Saturday after a homeless man carried a fake bomb into its central terminal, authorities said. The man was arrested.
Southern shake
A minor earthquake centered near Ducktown, Tenn., rattled the mountainous area of southeastern Tennessee, western North Carolina and northern Georgia on Saturday morning. No damage or injuries were immediately reported.
Dodd positive
Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd, who announced he has an early stage of prostate cancer, expects to have surgery in New York before resting at home and says he expects to be back in Washington when Congress reconvenes in September.
