Jay-Z paid tribute to the Beastie Boys — and Adam Yauch, whose cancer diagnosis prompted the rap trio to put their tour on hold — as he filled in for them at New Jersey’s All Points West festival Friday night. Jay opened with the Beasties classic “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” and dedicated the rest of his set to Yauch, mtv.com reports.
Cruising for Dave
Proving that not all Dave Matthews Band boat-related experiences have to be traumatic, the band is offering fans a chance to win a cruise to a private concert in the Bahamas, according to rollingstone.com. Back in 2004, the band’s tour bus dumped sewage into the Chicago River and onto a sightseeing boat, but this cruise sounds a lot nicer. The contest entry deadline, by the way, is the end of August.
Fall guy
Elsewhere in New Jersey, the news wasn’t so good for rapper Drake. The “Best I Ever Had” rhymer took a tumble Friday night in Camden, N.J., during his touring show with Lil Wayne and had to be carried off the stage, mtv.com reports. The following night, Lil Wayne announced Drake wouldn’t be able to perform and was undergoing surgery. Will Drake be able to get back on tour? Stay tuned.
