When the Bears signed offensive lineman Frank Omiyale to a $14 million contract, essentially that bought Omiyale every benefit of the doubt during training camp. And it’s still early — no real conclusions should be drawn until the Bears are blocking somebody other than their teammates.

But it’s no stretch to say that it would be premature to assume Josh Beekman has no chance of starting at left guard this season. Beekman has enjoyed a solid camp, continuing the development from last season when he started 16 games in his first year on the active roster. Omiyale, who alternated Monday with the No. 1 offense, has more experience at tackle and that might be affecting his transition to the guard position that often requires a lower center of gravity and pad level. The Bears delayed releasing their depth chart Monday, but it will be weeks before a pen instead of a pencil can be used to write in the starting left guard. …

Charles Tillman continues to make himself useful during practices, offering tips to young players. Monday, the injured cornerback immediately approached Woodny Turenne after Turenne recognized a play but was late to react. “Why’d you hesitate?” Tillman asked the undrafted rookie before putting a hand on his shoulder to explain. … Devin Aromashodu, a third-year player from Auburn, remains a mystery to everybody except the offensive coaches. Don’t rule out Aromashodu as a candidate to be one of the five or six receivers the Bears keep. …

Fourth tight end Kellen Davis, a special-teams asset for his blocking on kickoff returns, showed some good hands with a diving catch during the goal-line session. … Cyber nugget of the day: Former Bronco Desmond Clark, on his blog reacting to Cutler rating Chicago ahead of Denver as a football city: “Chicago is a better town to play football in than Denver. That’s no slap at the city of Denver, it’s the truth.”
