They’ve made good on their Grammy-night promise to reunite. Blink-182, the poppy-punky SoCal hit machine that gave us “All the Small Things,” “What’s My Age Again?” and (of course) “I Miss You,” is back. It’s been a while since their “indefinite hiatus” was announced in 2005, so let’s take a look at the boys in Blink in advance of their show Saturday at First Midwest Bank Amphitheater.
Mark Hoppus
singer-bassist
EXTRA CURRICULARS: Formed pop-punk band +44 with Blink drummer Barker in 2005. The band’s second album is on hold due to the Blink reunion.
DRAMA: Hoppus sued a father-and-son business last summer in San Diego Superior Court, alleging the duo kept his investment to install automated checkout machines at McDonald’s restaurants. Hoppus said he invested $600,000 in 2003.
WHY WE LIKE HIM: He met his future wife, Skye Everly, at the video shoot for “All the Small Things” in 2000. How cute.
Tom DeLonge
singer-guitarist
EXTRA CURRICULARS: Played bass in Box Car Racer in early ’00s; drummer Travis Barker joined him. In 2005, DeLonge formed alt-rock band Angels & Airwaves, which is still together and plans to release an album titled “Love” next Valentine’s Day.
DRAMA: None, but he did start Macbeth Footwear. The company’s inventory includes vegan and organic products — hey, it is based in Southern California, after all.
WHY WE LIKE HIM: DeLonge directed Taking Back Sunday’s video for “This Photograph Is Proof” in 2004 — his first time behind the lens.
Travis Barker
drummer
EXTRA CURRICULARS: Aside from Box Car Racer and +44, Barker drummed for hip-punk band Transplants. He remixed Rihanna’s “Umbrella” in 2007.
DRAMA: Of course, there was MTV’s “Meet the Barkers,” the reality show (2005-06) that chronicled family life with Barker and his second wife, Shanna Moakler. The marriage ended in divorce last year, but there were rumors of a relationship rekindling earlier this year between the two. Last September, Barker was in a Columbia, S.C., plane crash that killed four people and also critically injured DJ AM. He and AM have recovered.
WHY WE LIKE HIM: He allegedly had a 2006 fling with Paris Hilton but had the good sense to move on quickly.
