Aramis out, Big Z gets a shot
DENVER The Cubs were without third baseman Aramis Ramirez again Monday night against the Rockies and he will be examined by doctors in Chicago before deciding whether he will play in the all-important upcoming series against Philadelphia. Also Monday, the Cubs said that disabled starter Carlos Zambrano received an epidural shot for his bulging disc but that no serious damage was found in his back.

Sox land All-Star Rios
SEATTLE In a shocking transaction Monday, the White Sox acquired Toronto outfielder Alex Rios on waivers. Rios, 28, is guaranteed $59.7 million from 2010 through 2014. His acquisition has serious financial ramifications for the Sox, who have four high-profile free agents after this season — namely right fielder Jermaine Dye and designated hitter Jim Thome.
Blanco’s a cover boy
Fire midfielder Cuauhtemoc Blanco on Monday became the second Chicago athlete to land the cover of a best-selling sports video game this season. Blanco joins midfielder Sacha Kljestan of Chivas USA and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard on the cover of EA Sports’ FIFA Soccer 10. Blackhawks star Patrick Kane is on the cover of the upcoming NHL 10.
