A national TV audience. Pedro Martinez’s debut. The world champion Philadelphia Phillies in town to face the lovable loser Cubs. So, what was the talk of the night?

A beer.

With the Cubs up and rallying in the fifth inning, Jake Fox drove a ball to deep center. Phillies center-fielder Shane Victorino went to the wall to make the catch, but as the ball fell into his glove, a beer — or maybe a water — fell on his face. It was no accident.

A fan threw the beverage, and security threw the fan out. Or, a fan, for that matter. Replays showed Wrigley Field security might have grabbed the wrong guy.

The incident was all over Twitter and blogs. At one point, “Cubs” was the No. 2 trending topic on Twitter. Something to be proud of. Yeah, right.
