Weather causes airport delays

As thunderstorms swept through the area Sunday, the National Weather Service issued a flood warning for urban areas and small streams. The bad weather also caused delays at Midway and O’Hare, according to the Chicago Department of Aviation. Meanwhile, ComEd spokesman Jeff Burdick said the company was seeing “a couple thousand” customers without power, but those outages were not likely due to rain.

Man shot in Bronzeville

A 25-year-old man was shot in the chest Sunday morning in Bronzeville. Police responded to several shots fired in the 4700 block of South Evans Avenue about 2:25 a.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

7 hurt in South Shore crash

Five firefighters and two others were hurt Saturday when a fire engine collided with another vehicle at 67th Street and Jeffery Avenue in South Shore, a Fire Department spokesman said. A car collided with the fire engine as it was eastbound on 67th Street, police said. The fire engine then struck a pole. The driver of the vehicle, Michael Quinn, 30, of the 2100 block of East 72nd Street, was cited, police said.

1,887 guns turned in

Chicago police, community leaders and parents of gun violence asked the public to take part in Gun Turn-in day Saturday, getting a firearm off the streets with “no questions asked” in return for a gift card. Turning in an assault weapon was worth $100; a handgun garnered $50; and a pellet gun, BB-gun or replica gun was worth $10. Police said 1,887 guns were turned in.
