Mark Ellis lined a home run just over the left-field wall with two outs in the ninth inning as Oakland avoided a three-game sweep with a 3-2 win over the Sox on Sunday. The homer came off Bobby Jenks (2-4), who previously had posted five straight scoreless outings.

Cubs vs. Pittsburgh, postponed
After a 3-hour, 15-minute rain delay, the Cubs-Pirates game was called off Sunday. No makeup date was announced.
– Carlos Zambrano promises to follow a new workout regimen to strengthen stomach muscles and prevent another trip to the disabled list after it was announced he would return to the Cubs’ rotation a week from Tuesday against Washington. “My problem is I’ve been lazy,” Zambrano said Sunday. “There are things in life you don’t like to do, but you have to do them. I don’t like abs [abdominal muscles workouts] but I have to do them. I have to start doing them every day and be serious about it.”
