After a slow start to the Atlantic tropical season, forecasters are monitoring three named storms — Ana, Bill and newly formed Claudette. Forecasters expected Claudette to come ashore late Sunday or early Monday with winds from 50 to 60 mph.
Here are some other tropical facts:
– Ana: The weakest of the bunch with winds of 40 mph. It’s expected to intensify as it heads toward the Leeward Islands and the Caribbean.
– Bill: The strongest of the bunch with winds of 60 mph. It is expected to become a hurricane Tuesday and potentially a Category 3 storm by Wednesday as it stays northeast of Puerto Rico.
– Claudette: After it makes landfall east of Pensacola, Fla., it is expected to move north into central and northwestern Alabama, bringing heavy rains.
