Alderman’s relative found dead in car

Police are investigating the death of Wilfred Gines, whose body was discovered in the back of his Ford Expedition on Saturday night in Hammond, Ind., three days after he left his home in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood. Family said Gines, 31, a relative of Chicago Ald. JoAnn Thompson (16th), was going to confront two men he’d suspected of stealing a car engine he’d rebuilt in an auto garage in Chicago Heights. Gines was believed to have died of severe head trauma, and Hammond police are investigating the case as a homicide.

Body found in portable toilet near O’Hare

Chicago police are investigating the death of 39-year-old Abdiwali Mohamed, who was found in a portable restroom near a cab stand at O’Hare. The Cook County medical examiner’s office says Mohamed was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge and pronounced dead around 9:40 p.m. Saturday. A cause of death was not immediately available.

Early morning crash leaves two dead

Illinois State Police say two people are dead after an early morning car crash near Skokie. The Cook County medical examiner’s office says the deceased were male and female. Their identities were not immediately available Sunday. Police say the crash happened on Interstate Highway 94 around 4:30 a.m. near Skokie when the victims’ small SUV overturned.
