City watchdog running for Senate
Chicago’s top government watchdog quit on Wednesday to run for President Obama’s former Senate seat. Chicago Inspector General David Hoffman (above) said he’s in the race for the Democratic nomination for the seat Democratic Sen. Roland Burris now holds. Burris, who was appointed by ousted former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, has said he won’t seek a full term.
Woman robbed in Lincoln Park
Another strong-arm robbery was reported in Lincoln Park early Wednesday, but police said they had no reason to connect it with the recent series of muggings that have put the area on edge. A 20-year-old woman was approached by two assailants just after midnight in the 800 block of West Webster Avenue. She was hit in the face with a handgun, said police News Affairs Officer David Banks.
Dominick’s enters pricing battle
Dominick’s is firing a volley in what looks to be a grocery price war in the Chicago area.
The price-cutting spree follows a similar move in April by Jewel, and it mirrors pricing battles across the nation as supermarket chains battle a weak economy and increasing competition. Dominick’s said the price cuts have been implemented over the past three weeks, and advertising for the new pricing structure starts Thursday.
