Some prizes come in tangible packages, while others are more elusive yet no less valuable. The third annual Marklund Music Fest centers around a battle of the bands, featuring six groups divided into two age-based categories. The winners of the 18-and-under and 18-and-over contests each receive a 15-hour professional recording session at Waysound Recording Studio in Fox River Grove. Despite advances in home recording technology, which give bands of any economic status the opportunity to lay down tracks for posterity, the chance to enter a recording studio without breaking the bank would make any band salivate.
