Todd Stroger knows hacks and sharp elbows. Wednesday, he found himself in the way of both, this time on the basketball court.
The Cook County Board president took a blow to his forehead during a lunchtime basketball game at the East Bank Club. It required a trip to Stroger Hospital — named for his father, the late Cook County Board President John Stroger — and eight stitches above his right eye. He arrived at the hospital about 2:30 p.m. and left at 4:45 p.m.
Stroger plays regularly with a group of friends on Wednesdays said spokesman Sean Howard. He never invites Howard, the spokesman said, because “he knows I’m a hack.”
But Wednesday, “apparently another guy did my job,” Howard joked.
Stroger resumed his normal meeting schedule Wednesday while sporting a bandage, Howard said.
“When you get stitches above the eye, that means you’ve done something,” Howard said. “It lets guys know you’re a tough guy.”
