Every opening night of high school football is special. But circumstances on Friday made this year’s extra special.
For one thing, the Tribune’s No. 1 and No. 2 teams faced off. For another, Soldier Field hosted a Preseason Prep Bowl tripleheader.
No. 2 Wheaton Warrenville South held off top-ranked Hinsdale Central 34-26, a victory sealed by Julian Banuelos’ 49-yard touchdown run.
At Soldier Field, De La Salle, Mt. Carmel and Morgan Park were the winners.
