Athletics 12, Twins 5: Mark Ellis hit a three-run homer in a five-run third to helped Clayton Mortensen earn his first big league win. The A’s had five homers.
Orioles at Yankees: Derek Jeter’s 267 hits against Baltimore entering Friday are his most versus any opponent. New York has won 12 of its last 14 games.
White Sox at Angels: Los Angeles has won 8 of 11 with its starters posting a 1.53 ERA. Gavin Floyd started for Chicago, which began a six-game trip.
Rays at Red Sox, ppd.: The game was postponed because of rain. It will be made up Sunday as part of a doubleheader. Boston’s Victor Martinez has a 12-game hit streak.
Mariners at Rangers, ppd.: The game was postponed because of rain and will be played as part of a doubleheader on Sunday. Ichiro Suzuki is four hits shy of 200.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Cubs 6, Reds 4: Geovany Soto homered for the first time since Aug. 10 and Aramis Ramirez went 3-for-3 with three RBIs as Chicago won its fourth straight.
Phillies 4, Mets 2: Cole Hamels gave up one run on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings to break a seven-start winless streak against New York. Shane Victorino had three doubles and scored a run.
Nationals 5, Marlins 3: Mike Morse’s two-run pinch double in the sixth snapped a tie for Washington. Hanley Ramirez and Dan Uggla homered for Florida.
Astros 9, Pirates 1: Carlos Lee’s three-run homer keyed a six-run seventh and Lance Berkman also homered for Houston. Pittsburgh lost its 12th straight on the road.
Braves 1, Cardinals 0: Jair Jurrjens scattered six hits in eight innings for Atlanta. Albert Pujols went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and made two errors.
Brewers at Diamondbacks: Arizona’s Mark Reynolds leads the majors with 190 strikeouts. Milwaukee is 2-7 in September, averaging 2.6 runs per game.
Rockies at Padres: Colorado has a 2.90 ERA while starting September with a 9-1 record. Left-hander Jorge De La Rosa sought his 15th victory.
Dodgers at Giants: Manny Ramirez has five homers in his last 11 games for Los Angeles. Matt Cain, who sought his 14th win, is 0-6 in 12 career starts against the Dodgers.
