Cubs 5, Reds 2

The Cubs won their fifth game in six days on Sunday, shutting down the Reds 5-2 in front of 39,805 at Wrigley Field. Ted Lilly made it through six shutout innings while lowering his home earned-run average to 1.60 in 12 starts.

L.A. Angels 3, White Sox 2

Torii Hunter hit a tiebreaking home run in the seventh inning against Mark Buehrle, and the L.A. Angels beat the White Sox 3-2 on Sunday. The Sox are six games behind division-leading Detroit, and a half-game back of Minnesota.

Juan Martin del Potro advanced to his first Grand Slam final with a 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 victory Sunday over Rafael Nadal in the U.S. Open semifinals. He’ll face Roger Federer in Monday’s final.
