A small fire erupted on CTA train tracks in the Loop this evening, but no one was hurt, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
The fire started on tracks–which are traveled over by Brown, Pink, Orange and Purple Line trains–near Van Buren and Wells Streets about 6:30 p.m, said Fire Department spokesman Quention Curtis.
The blaze started on a rail tie, a piece of equipment that holds the tracks together, and was put out with a fire extinguisher by the operator of a southbound Orange Line train, said Chicago Transit Authority spokeswoman Sheila Gregory.
But the fire reignited, prompting firefighters to respond and put it out, she said.
Gregory said at 7:10 p.m. that all trains experienced 15-minute delays, and have since resumed service.
