Like any good running back, Evan Wright knows the key to his success is his offensive line.
So at the end of Fremd’s 35-14 victory against Barrington on Friday, the 6-foot-1, 193-pounder quickly gave credit for his big game to his buddies up front.
“We’ve pounded the ball all year,” Wright said. “The O-line did a great job up front. They just made great seams.”
Leading the way was right tackle Christian Lombard and his mates. The 6-5, 290-pound Lombard opened holes all night as Wright piled up the yards against the Broncos (1-4, 0-1).
The Vikings (5-0, 1-0) set the tone with a 92-yard, 14-play drive on their first possession.
Junior quarterback Rich Concialdi opened the drive with a 19-yard completion to Jeff Diegel against a Barrington defense stacked to stop the run.
Three plays later he connected with Jayme Szafranski on a third-and-8 for another 19-yard gain.
Player of the game: Evan Wright, Fremd, 32 carries, 158 yards, 2 TDs; 3 catches, 59 yards
