Yankees 3, Red Sox 0: CC Sabathia combined with two relievers on a two-hitter to become the majors’ first 19-game winner. Robinson Cano homered in the sixth to open the scoring.
Tigers 12, White Sox 5: Miguel Cabrera went 4-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs as Detroit roared back from a 5-0 deficit. Curtis Granderson added three RBIs.
Twins 11, Royals 6: Denard Span had a three-run triple and drove in a career-high six as Minnesota stayed within two games of Detroit in the AL Central.
Indians 9, Orioles 8: Jhonny Peralta’s single drove in the winning run in the ninth for Cleveland, which also got homers from Shin-Soo Choo and Andy Marte.
Rangers 15, Rays 3: Marlon Byrd hit a grand slam to highlight an 11-run fifth inning for Texas. Byrd also had a solo homer and Josh Hamilton added four RBIs.
Athletics at Angels: Los Angeles was 0-for-19 with runners in scoring position in its last two games. John Lackey looked for his 17th career win against the A’s.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Braves 11, Nationals 5: Yunel Escobar drove in three runs as Atlanta won its fifth consecutive game. Tommy Hanson threw seven innings for his 11th win.
Cubs 6, Giants 2: Aramis Ramirez homered and Jake Fox hit a tworun single as Chicago won for the sixth time in seven games. Juan Uribe homered for the Giants.
Reds 10, Astros 4: Laynce Nix hit a two-run homer and drove in three and Joey Votto had three doubles and scored twice as Cincinnati won its sixth straight.
Marlins 9, Mets 6: Cameron Maybin’s three-run homer keyed a seven-run fifth inning for Florida. Fernando Tatis and Carlos Beltran homered for New York.
Brewers 7, Phillies 5: Ryan Braun smacked a game-winning, tworun homer in the ninth to lift the Brewers. Ryan Howard hit his 43rd homer for Philadelphia.
Dodgers 8, Pirates 4: Jim Thome’s two-run pinch single keyed a four-run eighth as Los Angeles clinched a playoff berth for the second straight season.
Diamondbacks 8, Padres 5: Chad Tracy smacked a pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh inning to lift Arizona. Mark Reynolds added his 44th homer of the year.
Cardinals 6, Rockies 3: Jason LaRue homered to break a 3-3 tie in the seventh and Ryan Ludwick added a two-run homer in the ninth as St. Louis clinched the NL Central for the first time since ’06
