The CTA placed a legal notice in Monday’s Chicago Tribune outlining possible fare hikes and service reductions under a 2010 budget proposal unveiled Monday.

The Major changes would include:

Basic train fares:

$2.25 ->$3

Basic bus fares:

$2.25 ->$2.50

Express bus fares:

$2.25 ->$3

Full fare 30-day passes:

$86 ->$110

Seven-day passes:

$23 ->$30

The breakdown

Here’s what the possible fare hikes would mean for a person who lives in Chicago and rides the ‘L’ to and from work in the Loop five days a week.

Current rate:

$2.25 x 10 = $22.50 a week

Under proposal:

$3.00 x 10 = $30 a week

Difference:

– $30 – $22.50 = $7.50 a week

– $7.50 x 52 weeks = $390 a year
