Thousands of revelers descended on the Magnificent Mile Saturday evening for the 50th annual Lights Festival — the pre-Thanksgiving parade and fireworks show that traditionally launches Chicago’s holiday shopping season.

Waving festive illuminated wands at sponsored floats rolling down Michigan Avenue, children and families watched as more than 1 million lights were switched on.

“Twilight” actress Ashley Greene, Mitchel Musso of “Hannah Montana” and Blackhawks legend Tony Esposito were among the celebrities vying for attention with Mickey Mouse and Santa Claus.

Jane Kuebler, 12, and her mother, Bonnie, made the trip from Bloomington to appear in the parade.

Jane, who was dressed as a Twister board on a float of children dressed as toys, said she felt “a little bit” like a celebrity herself with so many people staring at her.

“We’ve already started our shopping,” her mom said. “We love to be in Chicago.”
