Saints 1, TV 0
A Louisiana man who bet against the New Orleans Saints has lost his 60-inch high-definition, flat-screen TV to a backyard firing squad, but he also became an Internet star.
Wayne A. Spring told his friends that if New Orleans beat the Washington Redskins on Sunday, anyone who wanted could come to his house and shoot his TV.
“I was a Saints fan, but used to be they never could win,” Spring said Thursday. “So I just decided to go against the grain.”
Spring said as soon as the undefeated Saints kicked the winning field goal in overtime, his phone started ringing.
About a dozen Saints fans, toting firearms and a case of beer, showed up at his rural home and shot up his TV in the backyard.
Spring put the video on YouTube and it now has almost 200,000 hits in three days.
Guilty plea in Andrews case
Court documents say an insurance executive has agreed to plead guilty to interstate stalking after nude videos were secretly made of ESPN reporter Erin Andrews (right).
The documents filed Thursday say Michael Barrett will plead guilty in L.A. federal court. He could face up to five years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000. Barrett, 48, of Westmont, Ill., was arrested Oct. 2 at O’Hare.
Barrett is suspected of renting hotel rooms adjacent to Andrews, altering the peepholes and shooting videos of her.
Del Negro fires back
Speaking more matter-of-factly than with rancor, Vinny Del Negro responded Thursday to critics claiming he should be fired for the Bulls’ recent 1-9 stretch.
“It’s easy to sit back on the sidelines and everyone has all these great ideas,” Del Negro said. “People think they know what they’re talking about. But until you live it and do it, no one has an idea.
“All you [media] guys have to write and do your job and come up with stories and that’s all great. But you guys really don’t know what it’s like — because you’ve never done it.”
