Northwestern 74, Central Connecticut St. 54
‘Cats cruise
Northwestern improved to 10-1 with a 74-54 victory over Central Connecticut State, but the result was the only thing that was pretty about this one.
The Wildcats played poorly in almost every phase: They shot 5-for-22 from 3-point land, had continual lapses on defense and couldn’t put the Blue Devils away until the final four minutes.
All this against a 3-5 (now 3-6) team from the Northeast Conference whose tallest rotation player is 6-foot-5.
John Shurna was a bright spot. He scored a career-high 29 points on 11-for-15 shooting.
Florida Gulf Coast 64, DePaul 61
A last-second 3-point attempt by Will Walker didn’t draw iron as DePaul lost 64-61 to Florida Gulf Coast. Mac Koshwal had 16 points for DePaul (7-5) while Jeremiah Kelly added 12 and Walker 11.
