Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Monday was a busy day in Chicago. Coaches and front-office execs were fired, hired, introduced, interviewed, extended and who knows what else. Here are the comings and goings.

ADIOS

Jerry Wainwright

DePaul coach

“Obviously, I didn’t win enough.”

DePaul is 7-8 and 0-3 in the Big East, where the school has lost 22 straight regular-season games. Wainwright went 59-80 in 4 1/2 seasons with the Blue Demons.

HELLO THERE

Carlos de los Cobos

Named Fire coach

“My idea, philosophy, is to play an attractive style of soccer. I know that the most important thing is to win, but there are different ways of winning. My goal and objective is to play a style that’s enjoyed by the fans, in which here’s a lot of ball movement, good touch on the ball.”

— De los Cobos, 51, brings more than 30 years of experience as a player and coach in Mexico and Central America.

Greg Maddux

Named Cubs special assistant to General Manager Jim Hendry

“I’m looking forward to getting back with [Hendry] and working with him and learning from him and the people around him, and doing what I can to help the players on the field and the organization.”

— Maddux will help tutor major and minor league players in spring training, and minor leaguers during the season. He also will consult with Hendry on personnel decisions.

John McDonough

Blackhawks president

“I’m proud to be a Chicago Blackhawk, I’m proud of our team, I’m proud of our front office and I’m proud of our fans, and I feel this is a privilege to be a part of.”

The man credited with helping turn the franchise around received a contract extension.
