– John Kass’ column Wednesday incorrectly stated that the federal deficit had risen for fiscal year 2010. In fact, the Congressional Budget Office’s deficit figure for 2010 — $1.35 trillion — was slightly lower than the $1.41 trillion deficit for fiscal year 2009.
– A graphic about State of the Union addresses on Page 4 of Tuesday’s main news section included an incorrect figure for the number of Republican Senate members at the start of Richard Nixon’s presidency. The correct number is 43. Also, all House and Senate breakdowns were for the start of each presidency. Independent and third-party members of Congress were included in each chart but the number was not shown.
– Melissa Harris’ Chicago Confidential column in Wednesday’s Business section incorrectly described the trading venue in which Jody Michael lost her savings in 1987. It was the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
– A chart in the Jan. 24 Sunday section gave the wrong year for the wettest in Chicago history. The wettest year, with 50.86 inches of precipitation, was 2008.
