Gary and Cathy Crawford could use some help locating their 150-pound steel dinosaur sculpture.
The sculpture of a velociraptor — the same dinosaur shown hunting in packs in the 1993 film “Jurassic Park” — was stolen last week from the front yard of their Midlothian home. They are hopeful someone will spot the 3-foot-high by 6-foot-long work of art before it ends up in a scrap yard somewhere.
“It should be displayed where people can see and appreciate it,” Cathy Crawford said.
The couple’s ordeal began Friday morning when Gary Crawford discovered his sculpture, which he welded 12 years ago, had been dragged off its concrete base and placed on its side next to his house.
Crawford put it back in his front yard garden and began making an alarm that would sound if the sculpture was jarred or moved. He didn’t finish the alarm before the piece was stolen later that night.
Although the couple filed a police report, they said they are not interested in pursuing criminal charges. They just want the sculpture back, Cathy Crawford said.
“It’s not worth more than $10 or $15 if someone decides to sell it for scrap metal,” she said.
