On the corner of an intersection near my house, one can witness a stream of people filling their cars with BP gasoline. I find it appalling that citizens would continue to support a corporation whose lackadaisical safety regulations has led to perhaps the worst environmental disaster of our generation. A new internal investigation has determined that BP ignored “several new warning signs of problems (BP probe finds warning signs before blast, Financial Times, May 26)” hours before the drilling began. Citizens should understand that by fueling at BP, they support willful blindness in the pursuit of short-term profits. This arrogant attitude is deplorable, and should be condoned by no one. To the loyal, obsequious supporters duped into believing BP is “green” or supplying “invigorating” gasoline, shame on you. Environmental disasters should not be rewarded by unyielding servitude.
