The anguish felt by Chicago area Coptic Christians following the fatal church bombing in Alexandria, Egypt is shared by the Jewish community (news story, “Coptic Christians upset by church attack in Egypt,” January 3).

Violent attacks on Christians simply because of their faith are despicable and demand universal condemnation. Sadly, this suicide bombing represents only the most recent attack against Christians with the recent deadly targeting of Christian minorities in Iraq and Sudan, as well as in Egypt and Gaza.

We respectfully call on Egyptian authorities to take additional measures to bolster security for the Copt community.
