Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Tribune editorial board recently invited candidates for the Chicago City Council to complete endorsement questionnaires. They were asked for their views on all kinds of weighty issues.

The last question was a little different: “Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.”

Get ready to be surprised:

I am addicted to Starbucks.

Sandi Jackson, 7th Ward

I am an avid soccer player and 12 years ago I started my own team called Clun Atletico Tango Sur, a nod to my Argentine roots. We play once a week for about eight months out of the year. Another interesting tidbit is that I have attended the last five World Cups!

Federico Sciammarella, 2nd

I am a huge fan of “Chopped” on the Food Network channel and on two occasions I have challenged myself to cook something tasty, in the time period allowed, using some of the common and exotic ingredients seen on television. What a disaster!

Pat Dowell, 3rd

I am a terrible cook. I am the daughter of a woman who lost everything during WWII when American citizens of Japanese descent lost all of their civil liberties and were incarcerated.

Lori S. Yokoyama, 4th

I love to watch the cooking shows on Sunday morning before attending church. I write down the recipes but don’t have the time to prepare them. I hope one day in the future to actually attempt to cook some of the recipes that I have collected over the years.

Darcel A. Beavers, 7th

I am an iPad lover.

Edmund “Ed” J. Quartullo, 38th

I am a two-time cancer survivor.

Carmen Olmetti, 43rd

I think at 61, people would be surprised to know I’ve run a marathon and taken 2nd place at a dance competition.

Daniel “Danny” Solis, 25th

I began doing triathlons nine years ago. I initiated the South Side’s first triathlon five years ago. …

Leslie A. Hairston, 5th

I like sci-fi (“Doctor Who,” “Torchwood,” “Star Trek,” “Lord of the Rings”) and “Masterpiece Theatre.”

Freddrenna Lyle, 6th

I organized and personally delivered three semitrucks to Tabasco, Mexico, with food, clothes and other essential needs to victims of the major floods that took place in 2007.

Cuahutémoc Morfín, 25th

I am shy.

Carl Segvich, 11th

I am an avid musician and have played the drums since I was 12 years old.

Latasha Thomas, 17th

In 2005, I won a Grammy for the song “Jesus Walks,” which I co-wrote with my friend Kanye West.

Che “Rhymefest” Smith, 20th

I am still in love with my wife after 20 years.

Walter Burnett Jr., 27th

I cut my grass with a reel-type push lawn mower.

Thomas Patrick Murphey, 41st

I count all my golf strokes.

Mary Russell Gardner, 29th

I love long road trips!

Emma M. Mitts, 37th

I’m a Star Trek fan. Born on Lincoln’s birthday. Amateur folk/cabaret singer. Just finished my first marathon.

Michele Smith, 43rd

I have been told that I’m a terrific dancer.

Carrie M. Austin, 34th

I loved playing hockey when I was younger, although I unfortunately no longer have the time to play on a regular basis. In 1999, I coached girls roller hockey at the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago.

Mary Anne “Molly” Phelan, 46th

I helped to establish the first farmers market in the city during a time when our communities were much more dependent on traditional grocery stores and processed foods.

Gene Schulter, 47th

I can say the alphabet backward faster than most people can say them forward! Something I learned in second grade. Don’t know why, just never forgot it!

Lyndon A Johnson, 39th
