I am writing in response to your article titled, “

More Illinois students taking AP courses

” (Feb. 9). After reading this article I was not surprised to see that a majority of students were not doing as well on Advanced Placement tests. In my opinion, I believe there are students taking AP classes just to get the credit and they are not ready for the work and effort that they need to put forward. Maybe I am wrong, but I believe some students taking AP classes are not ready. School counselors and administrators should more closely look at who they are placing in AP classes, but the students also need to realize the work that is involved with an AP class. I believe schools make AP classes seem like honor-level classes, but with a different exam and a college credit. When I read this article, it made me fear that more and more unready students are going to take AP classes and the curriculum and advancement of the class will decrease.
