It’s encouraging to see that the members of the Illinois senate are unanimously in support of the educational reforms proposed in recent legislation. With the importance that education plays in the lives of students as well as the country as a whole, it should be a number one priority that those hired to teach be the most qualified candidates that a school can get its hands on.
Once employed, teachers and other faculty member should be subject to the same kind of reviews used in virtually all other workplaces. Those that meet expectations should be kept, and those that can’t or won’t should be replaced. We should be concerned with whether or not students are getting quality instruction and less concerned with finding ways to keep mediocre teachers on the payroll.
