The May 29 front page story by Mary Schmich, “Memorial Day: Chasing down fragile, elusive memories,” is honest and piercing. I thank her most sincerely. I am a Chicago native, having grown up on the Northwest Side. I, too, was a twenty-year-old, sharing many of the same experiences as Mr. Zwit, serving as a radioman with the Fifth Marines. It is most poignant for me in that I arrived “back in the world” on April 15,1971. You can see, this was also my 40th year. I have learned that we do our fallen comrades the most honor by leading good lives and remembering them all in our prayers.
