I have just finished reading Rich Wiewiora’s letter in the June 9 Tribune. I agree that the Honor Flights and the Honor Flight Chicago, are great organizations. But, no one ever gives credit to the USO for their part in making this happen at Midway Airport.
Bob Stone, the USO director at Midway, is the unseen middleman that makes this all happen. As a matter of fact, none of it would happen the way it does without his efforts.
It irks me that the USO is never mentioned or their signs are never shown in any media stories or newsclips. In case you don’t remember, the USO has been helping the military for many decades. Thing about Bob Hope in Vietnam and Tommy Dorsey in World War II.
