Thank you for your June 26 Editorial “Pass/fail/fail/fail.” As one who taught more than a thousand prospective teachers in 45 years of university teaching, I’m not surprised that many prospective teachers are far from academic stars.
We constantly say how important it is that our children have the best education possible, yet it seems that our plan for attracting higher quality teachers is to cut their salaries, lower their pensions, eliminate their ability to gain tenure and emasculate their unions.
Do you think businesses or sports teams could attract better employees this way? Perhaps we should re-think our priorities.
