Acting on a tip, police and animal control officials seized two alligators and a python after finding more than a dozen animals at a Crystal Lake home Wednesday night, authorities said.

Officers from three McHenry County agencies searched the home of Anthony Bonfiglio, 35, located on the 400 block of Linn Avenue around 7:45 p.m., and found 10- and 5-foot-long alligators in the basement, Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Eugene Lowery said. A 12-foot reticulated python, five carpet pythons, seven turtles, parrots and a white fox were also found.

Because the alligators and reticulated python are illegal to keep as pets, they were taken from the home by animal control to the Chicago Herpetological Society, said to Debra Quackenbush, spokeswoman for the McHenry County Department of Health.
