Pascual Roman was charged with shooting and killing a Chicago man in 1992. Chicago Public Schools records show Roman removed his children from school, fled and then enrolled them in a Houston middle school, according to a federal warrant.

After authorities sought Roman in Houston, he slipped over the border to Mexico and was eventually found in Guerrero, Mexico.

Authorities dropped the case for 15 years, then in 2007 reinstated the warrant and determined that he was still in Mexico.

But this is not a case in which Cook County is actively seeking extradition from the Mexican government, and Roman remains at large.
