A comprehensive and compelling article in the Chicago Tribune’s Sunday insert, “Caped Crusaders,” (Oct. 30) emphasized the importance of bats, a species that has been wrongly vilified and maligned by disinformation and reckless fiction.

Bats are incredibly vital to nature’s ecosystems. They are wondrously beneficial to humans because of their benevolent and prolific pollination, spreading of seeds and their prowess at curtailing insect infestations. Humans should not demonize important species like bats, bees or even coyotes because all these creatures have a productive niche to fill to ensure the overall welfare of ecological sustainability on planet earth.
