Read these statements, taken from the mass mailings of Illinois congressmen, and try to guess which of the state’s 19 U.S. representatives is speaking. Answers are below.

A) “Through bold and decisive leadership, I am working to chart a new course — creating millions of good-paying jobs, investing in our communities and rebuilding opportunity for our children.”

B) “I’ve been busy working to do what you sent me to Washington to do for you — cutting spending, creating jobs, and getting our economy back on track.”

C) “Trust is a tough thing to come by these days — especially in Illinois — and I will work every day to not let you down.”

D) “The spending madness has to stop, and I will continue to fight to restore fiscal sanity in Washington.”

E) “While in Congress I’ve been voting to cut government spending, put an end to abusive government regulations and create jobs back home.”

Two of the statements were from Chicago Democrats: A) Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and C) Rep. Mike Quigley. The others were from Republicans: B) Rep. Joe Walsh of McHenry, D) Rep. Peter Roskam of Wheaton and E) Rep. Randy Hultgren of Winfield.
