DALLAS — The Cubs picked converted infielder Lendy Castillo in the Rule 5 draft Thursday, hoping he can survive an entire season in the bullpen. The Cubs either have to keep Castillo on the major league roster or give back half of the $50,000 price.

Castillo is a very raw 22-year-old who pitched at Class A Lakewood in the Phillies chain last season. He was 4-2 with a 2.54 ERA, mostly in relief, and struck out an average of one batter in each of his 46 innings.

The Cubs also lost Triple-A infielder Ryan Flaherty to Boston in the draft.
