In response to Tom Price and Paul Ryan’s op-ed, “Getting America out of deep debt,” I would like to correct the seriously misleading comments blaming the “Democrat-led Senate” for lack of a budget. The blame lies with the Republican practice of demanding a 60 percent majority for any work to be accomplished. Thus the Republicans have de facto control of any action in the Senate. I would agree that the Democrats in the senate are not doing all they can to provide adequate leadership, but the claim that the Democrats could pass a budget bill if they wanted to is a bald-faced lie and Price and Ryan know it.

The second point to be made regarding their article is the unstated content of all those budget bills they claim are ready for passage in the House. Those bills contain decreased support for the poor in this nation and continued support of loopholes for the rich. They know that, but they wisely refuse to state it in public because they realize the political consequence of letting the average voter know what has and is continuing to happen to them under the Republican policies.
