A Dec. 16 letter to the editor asked, “Whatever happened to the beautiful tradition of caroling?”
The letter writer should move to our neighborhood in Batavia. We started our caroling and chili party in 1982 in Warrenville and just last Saturday celebrated our 30th annual caroling party here in Batavia. Our intent at the time we started it was the hope that the young children of our friends would enjoy it and perhaps start their own tradition of caroling when they matured and had their own families. To our knowledge that hasn’t happened yet, but we are hopeful because for several years those young children have continued to attend our party as adults with their boyfriends, girlfriends and spouses, enjoying it as much now as when they were much younger and argued with each other as to whose turn it was to ring the doorbell before we burst into song.
