General manager Jerry Angelo announced Wednesday on the Chicago Bears’ team-controlled website that he’s never experienced anything like the team’s 0-4 collapse since the loss of Jay Cutler.
“Things were going very well,” Angelo told the website, referring to the Bears’ 7-3 record after a Nov. 20 victory over San Diego in which Cutler broke his thumb. “We were feeling really good about the team and had no reason not to. When we made the switch with the quarterback we knew it was going to be an adjustment. But unfortunately we weren’t able to do the things we needed to do to win games, particularly in the close ones. The thing that’s probably been the most disappointing to me is that we weren’t able to finish and we imploded in some cases.”
Asked where the Bears go from here, Angelo told the website: “It’s where we go every week. Our focus is doing what we have to do to get a win, not sitting here lamenting about what’s happening. We still have two games to go and we want to finish strong. There’s a lot at stake professionally. We put a lot of stock in each and every game regardless of where we are in the standings. Unfortunately, we’re not where we want to be. But that doesn’t mean these games are unimportant and won’t be taken seriously.”
