As stated in “Medicare and Mediscare” (Editorial, Dec. 26), we need more leaders like Reps. Paul Ryan and Ron Wyden who are not afraid to open the windows in Congress and allow the fresh air of bipartisanship to sweep across the stale, air-tight agendas in Washington.

However, we have elected politicians who choose to play whac-a-mole with controversial issues, resolving them only to a point to which they pop up later (e.g. the payroll tax-cut and Medicare) instead of dealing with them head-on. They also put off working with each other in the best interest of the country for fear that the opposite party will gain the credit and recognition.

Ironically the same “unconstitutional” card they play when crying foul is also the term synonymous for their work ethic and cooperation.
