Kyle Prater’s interest in Northwestern is clear. Earlier this week, his mother, Sonya, lauded Northwestern in an interview with the Tribune, calling it “a school that has great tradition. And it’s very local.”

ESPN.com reported Thursday that Prater, the former standout receiver from Proviso West who has decided to transfer from USC, considers Northwestern his “frontrunner” and will visit the Evanston campus on the weekend of Jan. 28.

Prater also told the website that he has been informed that his academic transcript will allow him admission into the school.

Rivals.com rated Prater the nation’s third-best recruit in the class of 2010.
