Debris falling from a building in the Loop this evening caused the closure of Jackson Boulevard in the Loop, police said.

As of 6:55 p.m. no injuries have been reported, according to a Central District police lieutenant.

The debris fell from a building at 20 E. Jackson Blvd., causing eastbound Jackson Boulevard to be closed to motorists and pedestrians from State Street to Wabash Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety.

Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado said crews responded there at 6:07 p.m. but left the scene after determining no one was injured.

Authorities notified the city’s Department of Buildings, according to Rosado.

The street is closed off in front of the 19-story Steger Building, according to a witness.
