Some University of Chicago students who live in an on-campus housing facility that recently garnered attention after students complained of unsanitary bathroom conditions will meet Wednesday with a member of the building’s support staff.

A university spokesman said a facility services staffer will provide updates about progress on the work to Pierce Tower at a meeting of the tower’s council, a group of elected residence hall officers. The meeting is scheduled for 9:30 p.m.

Last week, the university held a town hall so Pierce Tower residents could detail their concerns with the building’s infrastructure.

For weeks, students have been posting photos on a Tumblr page, savepierce.tumblr.com showing debris and fluid on bathroom floors, shower curtain mold and clogged sinks.

One student claimed a toilet exploded its contents on her nearly six months ago.
