Classifying hoarding as a disorder (“Experts seek to classify hoarding disorder”, Health, March 14) is a bit much! The symptoms associated with it do not appear dangerous or bizarre. They just describe someone who is stubborn, controlling and undecided.
Before psychologists attempt to classify hoarding as a disorder, a new assessment instrument should be developed. Professor Gail Steketee’s questionnaire needs to be more extensive and specific.
Hoarding is not a new phenomenon.
Now because it is broadcast on television, people want to consider it a problem.
